Why are Vampires Sexy?

I watched True Blood last night and really enjoyed it. I will talk about that on another post, but some things I’ve been reading promoting the new show are talking about the hotness of vamps.

Every since the 1930s Dracula movie came out, vamps have been sexy. The human woman/vampire male pairing is hot. It could be the fang/penetration thing or is it that bad boys are inherently sexy.

There is a trend to show male vampires as heroic and/or loving. Dark Shadows was a show that started this sort of thing (I think). Some of those Anne Rice boys are also examples of this mold. You know there is Angel and Spike, two soulful vampires and my personal vampires. They are loving, sexy and of course badass. You got the Moonlight guy and the Twilight guy. Bill on True Blood is of the same mold.

I thought about a few more reasons that why the girls love those vampires, especially the ones that won’t that won’t kill you.

They are worldly. The think about living through history and traveled the world. You know they lived through so many eras, they could’ve worn powered wigs and possibly later inspired Billy Idol’s look. Vamps must be good conversationalists. Vampires are more interesting that the average frat boy drinking beer at a football game.

Vampires are exciting, since there is that edge of danger. It is that potential danger, just beneath the surface. A vampire’s fangs are hidden, but you know they are still there. The sex with vampires is no consequences, sans the Angel “one moment of perfect happiness thing.” No STDs or pregnancy threat, so it seems like a no brainer.
